Netherlands’ Frenkie de Jong Will Not Play in Euro 2024 Due to Injury

Netherlands and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been ruled out of the Euro 2024 and will miss the European Championship due to injury. He got injured in April El Clasico but he was called into the Netherlands’ team squad. According to recent reports, Frenkie de Jong won’t go to Germany for the Euros and will remain in Barcelona for further treatment.

Dutch coach Ronald Koeman earlier stated that he’d hoped the midfielder would be ready for the European Championship but he’ll stay in Spain for further treatment. De Jong will now support the team off the pitch.

On 11 June 2024, The Netherlands confirmed his exclusion from the squad on X. His absence will be a huge blow to the current squad as he is one of the key midfielders in the team.

Frenkie de Jong: I’m Sad & Disappointed

He is set to now focus on Barcelona and the Summer break would help him recover. De Jong missed most of the matches Since El Clasico played in April this year. On his Instagram profile, he said

I’m sad and disappointed that I won’t make it to the European Championship. We’ve been doing a lot of it the past few weeks, but my ankle needs more time, unfortunately. It’s a dream and the greatest honour to represent our country in a final tournament. Wearing the orange shirt, singing the Wilhelmus, and feeling the support of the entire country. But now I will, like the entire orange legion, cheer for our team from the sidelines. Let’s go, boys.

The Netherlands will start their Euro 2024 campaign without Frenkie de Jong on against Poland on 16 June 2024. They’ll be facing France and Austria also in the group-stage games. Don’t forget to see the Netherlands Euro 2024 kits.
