City won their first ISL Cup title in 2021 when their rivals were again Mohun Bagan (ATK Mohun Bagan at that time). It was not only the first ISL title of City, but it was the first-ever Indian title for the club.
I’m disappointed, says Mohun Bagan manager
The iconic Salt Lake Stadium hosted the game with more than 62,000 fans. Most of the fans were Mohun Bagan supporters but they had to be satisfied as runners-up of the competition. Mohun Bagan manager, Antonio Lopz Habas said
I am disappointed because we wanted to say goodbye to the supporters today with a victory. But we couldnโt. In football, it’s impossible that you can choose when you can win or you can lose.
Today, my players kept fighting, fighting, fighting until the final whistle. But I think that psychologically, two must-win matches (final league game against Mumbai City FC and semi-final second leg against Odisha FC), transcendental matches in the last month is maybe, and today is tiring mentally.
MBFT understands Mohun Bagan are speaking with Antonio Lopez Habas to extend his contract for one more season.
If Habas can’t continue as a head coach, he will take up the role of a TD and decide the new coach along with the Club.#JoyMohunBagan #MBFT pic.twitter.com/CiZPwNSIYg

Play-Offs: MCFC played against the 3rd place Goa in the Semi-Final. They secured a 3-2 win in the first leg and kept a clean sheet victory (2-0) in the second leg before reaching the final.
Final: Mumbai City and Mohun Bagan played a repeat final of ISL 2020-21, and the result again favored City.
Congratulations to Mumbai City FC for winning the 2nd ISL title!
