Confirmed: Real Madrid Will Appeal Bellingham’s Red Card

It is now officially confirmed that Real Madrid will appeal against Bellingham‘s red card that he received against Valencia in the last La Liga game. A controversial draw at the Mastella stadium caused Real Madrid to drop points when referee Jesus Gil Manzano disallowed Bellingham’s goal.

The visitors were about to grab all points at the Mestella but the final whistle from the referee settled it as a draw. Bellingham protested as his goal was ruled out, but Gil Manzano not only disallowed the goal, but he showed a red card to the former Borussia Dortmund player also.

Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti also stated that Bellingham did not aim an insult at the referee. Sources have now cleared that Real Madrid will soon launch an appeal to have the card overturned.

This means that the Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee will asses the matter during next week. Real Madrid will be notified of this decision on Wednesday or Thursday.

Will Bellingham Miss the Next La Liga Match?

Well, according to the Spanish Football Federation’s Article 127, “Protesting the main referee, assistants or fourth referee, as long as it does not constitute a more serious offense, will be punished with a suspension of two to three games or for a period of up to one month.

If Madrid fails to overturn Bellingham’s red card, he could miss probably one or two next La Liga games. There is a possibility that the English midfielder may be suspended for 3 games, but everything suggests it will only be a suspension of 2 matches.

Despite the draw against Valencia, Madrid are still at the top of the table with 7 7-point lead over 2nd place Girona who has one game in hand. The draw against Valencia was Madrid’s 6 draw of the La Liga 2023-24 season.
