Confirmed: Xavi Hernandez Agrees to Stay as Barcelona Head Coach

An interesting U-Turn in FC Barcelona as the club head to coach Xavi Hernandez agrees to stay as Barcelona’s head coach. The former Spanish midfielder earlier announced that he would be leaving the club but after meeting the club President and board, he is not going anywhere and will manage Barcelona next season.

The Vice President of FC Barcelona, Rafa Yuste said Xavi will stay and he’s really happy to manage the club. This decision came after a controversial El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu. Rafa said

Xavi will stay, he’s really happy and excited. We’ve never opened talks for any other coach. (Barça Director) Deco trusts Xavi, it’s guaranteed.

During the month of January this year, Xavi announced that he would leave the club at the end of the season after a 5-3 defeat at the hands of Villarreal. His current contract as Barcelona manager expires next season which means he still has one year to manage the club. In January, Xavi said

The club is yet to make it official that Xavi is staying as he agrees to stay. Barca is expected to announce it in the coming days before their official game.

Xavi helped the club lift the first La Liga trophy after the departure of Lionel Messi. He also won Supercopa de Espana in the final against Real Madrid. This season, they’ve managed to reach the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League after a very long time.

Under the current circumstance of FC Barcelona, Xavi managed to go as far as possible in the Champions League, and they are still in the 2nd spot in La Liga.
