He was substituted in the 42nd minute in the 1st leg of the Champions League Semi-Final against BVB. After an MRI scan, it is quite clear that he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) which will keep him away from the Euro 2024.

ACL injuries require about 6 to 8 months for recovery. The club has stated that Hernandez will have surgery in the next few days. PSG did not tell about the recovery time.

The 28-year-old defender made his international debut for France on 6 March 2012 and since then, he has played 37 games. He won the FIFA World Cup in 2018. The Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also ruled out of the competition.

He was again called for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but suffered the same injury (ACL) 13 minutes into the first match against Australia. He was ruled out of the tournament because of the injury.
